VIDEO: Strong winds and heaving rain warnings issued for Ashburton District / Canterbury region

MetService has issued a red warning for strong winds for the Canterbury high country and foothills area. This is based upon expected winds gusts of up to 160km/h and is forecast to be stronger than the winds overnight Thursday/Friday.

Council Services at "Delta" Level 2

Mid Canterbury residents and visitors are being advised that Council's local facilities and services will resume normal operations this week after the country (excluding Auckland) goes into Alert Level Two from midnight tonight, but there will be some new Delta variant safety measures and restrictions in place.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Monday has announced that everywhere south of the Auckland boundary will move to Alert Level 3 from 11.59 pm Tuesday 31 August. This measure will remain in place for one week and will be reassessed on 6 September.
